Amaja Andrews won 1st prize at the CAES Young Scholars Oral competition. for her presentation entitled "Identifying a SNP marker for marker assisted selection
of Fusarium Wilt Race 1 resistance in watermelon". Congratulations to Amaja and her mentor, Leigh Ann Fall.

Ph.D Assistanship Available - Spring 2018
A Ph.D. assistantship is available in our lab starting Spring 2018. The research will focus on early pathogen detection using molecular tools and high throughput phenotyping technologies (UAVs). Candidates with a background in molecular biology and engineering are encouraged to apply. Interested parties should contact Dr. Cecilia McGregor (cmcgre1@uga.edu).

Welcome Amaja Andrews and Josh Thedford. They will be spending the next six weeks doing research in the lab as part of the UGA CAES Young Scholar Internship Program. Leigh Ann and Reeve will be showing Amaja and Josh the ropes for the next six weeks.

Congratulations Winnie and Leigh Ann!
Winnie Gimode was awarded 1st prize (Ph.D) and Leigh Ann was awarded 2nd prize (M.S.) at the annual IPBGG Retreat poster competition. In addition Winnie was also awarded the Todd Campbell Travel Award ($1,000) to attend the NAPB Annual Meeting at UC Davis in August.

Suzanne Stone Exit Seminar Announcement
Suzanne Stone will be delivering her Ph.D. Exit seminar on Wednesday, March 15th at 3:30 pm in Room 1502 Miller Plant Sciences. The title of her seminar is "Using plant breeding,cultivar evaluation, and cultivation strategies to address challenges in sustainable watermelon production."

New Graduate Student - Winnie Gimode
Winnie Gimode joined our group in Spring 2016. Winnie is pursuing her PhD and will be working on gummy stem blight resistance and flowering time in watermelon. Welcome Winnie!

Phyllicia Thomas wins 1st prize!
Phyllicia Thomas won 1st prize for her oral presentation in the CAES Young Scholars Internship Program (Athens). The title of her research was "Detection of mutations in a candidate gene associated with bi-sexual flowers in watermelon"

Watermelon planting day! Oh joy!
The McGregor Lab and Team Boyhan hand-transplanted ACRES of watermelon in May and June with help from graduate peers in the Horticulture Department. The two teams will have 6 watermelon field experiments running this summer at the Durham Horticultural Farm. Of course we are looking forward to tasting the fruit!!
